A 25 year old slitting line for light gauge aluminium, very much a revolutionary design at the end of the 70’s has given excellent service at the Holmestrand Rolling Mill of Hydro Aluminium for many years.

However when Hydro’s massive investment programme led to the installation of a line for bigger OD and wider coils of aluminium, down to 0.05mm, 'S5' was no longer required, and it was purchased by TMCCL.

It is the perfect machine for much of the small batch business in which TMCCL specialises, and for the past six months has been installed at a slitting company in the UK, performing as well as ever, slitting coils of strip from 0.10 to 0.70mm thick, from coils up to 600mm wide and 1200mm OD.

The machine has separated hydraulic recoil mandrels of various ID’s, preventing all damage to the delicate edges of the light gauge aluminium strip, producing superbly tightly wound coils at speeds of up to 250 metres per minute.
